On Tuesday 5th October 2010 we left Alicante on the 14.30 flight to Venice arriving at 16.55. From the airport, we got the Eurobus to the main bus station Piazzale Roma in the centre of Venice where it was a short walk across bridges to our Hotel Ca’Dogaressa where we stayed for 3 nights (€450) This hotel was small and delightful and an easy walk to all the places of interest in Venice We even managed to have our breakfast outside on the side of the canal where the water was rapidly rising.
We managed to cram in a lot during our 3 days – taking a tour to see all the famous landmarks and places of interest (which gave us a lot of information) – A ride on a gondola – a boat trip to Murano and a visit to a glass factory and generally just walking the streets and crossing many bridges and enjoying eating out and great food

On the 8th we hired a car from Avis and drove to Rovinj in Istria (Croatia)where we rented an apartment (Tamara’s Holiday lettings)for 5 nights at a cost of £60 per night.

Initially, we were very concerned when we saw the block, where the apartment was situated, as it looked very bleak and dull but once we got into the apartment (finding the door key in a chest of drawers on a landing outside the door!) we were very pleased that it was bright and clean The view from the window was not that special as you will see from the washing hanging!
Rovinj is a small and picturesque harbour town with lovely walks along the coast (and we hired bikes) We took a sunset cruise which was beautiful. Having the car enabled us to visit Vrsar, Porec, Novigrad and Motovun

On the 13th, remaining in Istria, we drove to Lovran near Opatija where we stayed for 3 nights at €44 per night at Pension Stanger
Lovan is situated on the Riviera Opatija and from this base, we travelled and visited many towns and villages and were lucky enough to be in Lovran for their Chestnut festival

On 16th October we drove back to Venice which took just over 3 hours

and caught the 17.20 flight to Alicante where we arrived at 19.45.
